ED NORTON RECRUITS SUPPORT ON NYC MARATHON FOR
Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust
Following the launch of the Cartier LOVECHARITY green-band bracelet supporting the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, Ed Norton continues his decade-long support for the Kenyan-based project in recruiting runners for the 2011 ING New York City Marathon. His team of ten runners each commit to raising $6,000 for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT). In 2009, Norton helped raise an astounding $1.2 million sum for the Maasai community to invest protection in wilderness conservation in East Africa through the established trust at our eco-camp Campi Ya Kanzi, founded by Luca Belpietro and his wife, Antonella Bonomi. The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust employs sixty local Maasai scouts to protect its 280,000 acres - home to over 1000 species of unique African wildlife - from poaching and illegal farming development. Donations to the MWCT also help education and health initiatives for the indigenous Maasai community.
“The world increasingly relies on many traditional communities like the Maasai to protect the ecological treasures that exist within the land that they own. Figuring out how people in developing countries can thrive and grow without destroying some of the world's most important natural resources is going to be one of the great challenges of the 21st century.”
- EDWARD NORTON
President of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, USA
