Abu Private Concession

Quick facts

Just 6 luxury tents

Pioneered in the early 1990s, and named after a much-mourned bull elephant, Abu Camp has been running for 20 years, and as such is

the Original Elephant Safari experience in Africa.

AN INTREPID ADVENTURE

Botswana’s private concessions have experienced a natural rennaissance that has quietly yet dramatically transformed this pristine wilderness. In just a few years, the immaculate stretch of private wilderness that is the Abu concession underwent a complete change in hands from the departure of previous owner, Randal Moore who founded the Elephant back safari program at camp with its 3 night schedule.

Under management of Wilderness Safaris and complete regain of the entire 450,000 some acres of game-filled plains, the largest private holding in Botswana’s big game areas, Abu concession is the most unique experience of its kind centered in the prime region of the Okavango Delta:

Land game drives encounter all the big game and some of the rarest species hardly seen elsewhere, guided canoeing in mekoro takes travelers through the magical wetlands where antelope and elephant drift along the muddy banks. Spotlight night game drives deliver another hauntingly beautiful aspect of the nocturnal species active after sunset through the reserve. And then, saved for last, you have the most unique animal interaction experience in all of Botswana: Riding and walking with the famed Abu Elephant herd.

All inclusive of your stay, did we mention?

A PLACE TO ESCAPE

Mombo Magic. Rich with natural wonder, attracting some of the most well-traveled safari enthusiasts, famed photographers and documentary-makers from the world over. A small island with an immaculate stretch across the Okavango Delta, Mombo’s game viewing scene is concentrated within its tight confines as the annual flood creates waterways around its perimeter keeping a great quantity of animals on its dry land for the season. A prime hunting ground for lion prides and leopard, travelers are offered bountiful encounters with these big cats in this tropical environment.

Legedema is one such famous leopard at Mombo whose chronicles are witnessed on exciting game drives through the reserve. She was the subject of the celebrated National Geographic documentary: Eye of the Leopard. Her daughter Pula carries her dominant legacy at Mombo.
