The Kwedi Concession is a private reserve traversed exclusively by guests of Vumbura Plains Camp. A vast area of 220,000-acres opens on to floodplains, sheltering mopane woodlands and an expanse of flat savannah grasslands; a favorite habitat for Cheetah. This is a year-round destination with both land based game drives and canoeing on the permanent Okavango Delta waterways. The annual floodplains are locally known as Melapo and during the dry season months offer spectacular sightings of Elephant and rarer species such as the Sable Antelope which is a special find in the Okavango. The area is also unique for its African wild dog populations and several prides of Lion. Some of the largest herds of Cape Buffalo are seen moving through the concession. Of particular note also is the exceptional birding at Vumbura Plains with impressive sightings of Wattled Crane, Pink-backed pelican, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret, Rosy-throated longclaw and many others.
