About the new pop-up: Mombo Trails Camp
With the renovation closure of main Mombo Camp, the Mombo concession will be operating a classic pop-up fly camp at an incredibly reduced rate to enjoy this game-rich concession. Mombo Trails Camp will be set up from Jan 15 2016. While originally intended to run for a limited time till June 30, 2016, the great demand for this pop-up offering has extended its availability till April 2017. Drawing back to minimal safari roots with great wildlife offering, 7 elegantly-furnished tents with spacious living plans will be erected on the ground with complete safety to enjoy the plains. Lounge and dining areas will form a ‘mess tent’ with a small library and a campfire setting. Given the temporary siting of this ‘mobile’ type camp, there will be no pool. There will be an optional private vehicle available at Mombo Trails for guests desiring a completely private safari.
About the siting of MOMBO TRAILS camp, in the words of a guide:
In the seventies, when I first started guiding mokoro safaris in the Okavango Delta, the Yei paddlers spoke of a legendary area they called Borea … Over the years I listened avidly as they recounted the stories of the area we now know as Mombo. In their eyes, it had an almost mythical quality: huge herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and all the predators. … Nothing I had ever done prepared me for how overwhelmed I was by my return to Mombo. Every guide needs a spiritual home, and Mombo and the heart of the Okavango will always be mine.”
