Meet the Meerkats

On a chilly morning the meerkats cuddle up for warmth and for lack of a termite mound they’ll use your hat as a sentry lookout post!

Spend cozy moments with these socialand lovable creatures to see how they interact with each other and their environment.

One of the most special and memorable game experiences you will encounter in Botswana.

Makgadikgadi Pans

San Camp is all persian carpets underfoot and cool linen to rest your head. The mahogany and brass structures form a striking contrast with the rugged wilderness outside.

Astounding 6,200 square miles of the world’s largest soda lake all around: One of the only remaining places on earth where the silence is so complete you can hear the blood circulating through your ears!

Kalahari Archaeology

The ancient Lake Makgadikgadi, an African superlake, evaporated many millennia ago leaving behind archaeological resurfacing of prehistoric man through abundant finds of stone-age tools; some of which have been dated sufficiently early to establish their origin as earlier than the era of Homo sapiens. One of the world’s largest breeding colonies of flamingos occur in the rainy seasons leaving behind surreal nesting grounds that lie abandoned throughout the dry season.

Walk with San tribes

In working closely with the Zu/’hoasi people of the Western Kalahari for many years and San Camp is privileged to host a community of four generations of San tribesmen.

Offering a window into our past, learn about the San bushmen’s survival in this harshest of places, using vast and ancient knowledge of plants, animal behavior and survival skills in their distinctive ecological environs.

The desert tea tent

The tea tent is an indulgent and elegant setting for treats like Triple Layer Banana Caramel Cake, Granny’s Melting Moments and the most delicious brownies in the desert!

At night the bedouin-style central pavillion lights up the lamps and guests gather at a long banquet table to share stories from the day’s findings in the pans. Enjoy nightcaps by the bonfire listening to the desert orchestra.
