We loved Sweni, and the renovated Ebony was good too, especially the new decks and “bar” area in the centre. We can’t believe they didn’t have that bar in the past because it’s such a great gathering place in the morning and of course at night.
We liked our guides and trackers at both places — Barry and Daniel at Sweni and Michelle and Phanwel at Ebony — and learned so much from them. Trust, at Sweni, and Agnes, at Ebony, took great care of us.
This kind of visit is very important to us — going beyond the lodge and seeing a village.
The Dinetz family, on Justicia
We also loved our community visit to Justicia. We saw the Happy Homes school and brought supplies from home for the kids. The lodge helped us with the list before we left.
We saw a few groups sing and dance and also visited a home where we learned about food preparation and tasted some typical dishes. Our guide from Justicia said it was not a romanticised village set up for tourists but instead was real Africa — a mix of traditional houses alongside new modern homes, and people that honoured their traditions while at the same time wanting their cell phones and TVs. A great visit. Just what we wanted to see.
