Abu Camp
Previously home of the Original Elephant safari experience in Africa, owned by Paul Allen, Abu Camp has now closed off the elephant back safaris once offered. Abu Camp is located in the private 400,000 acre Abu concession in the Okavango Delta, featuring 6 basic tents with a viewing deck overlooking the lagoon. The Elephant herd at Abu Camp has mostly been released to the wild at the close of the elephant safari program. Once arrival at camp, guests would have obtained a personal introduction to the Abu herd, in addition to regular safari activities for a complete Okavango Delta experience - now with changing patterns of the game and wildlife, the camp is mostly focused on a birding experience. Raised above the ground, Abu’s Star Bed overlooks the Boma right beneath your hideout where the previous Abu Herd once rumbled and lulled to sleep. The split-tier Star Bed sleepout features a bathroom, outdoor shower and viewing deck.

Never a Big Cat or big game destination, the Abu Concession is the largest and most private Okavango Delta experience for water-based interests for rare antelope viewing. In addition to regular day and night game drives and guided canoeing on the delta, fishing and birding safaris are offered. As of now, the Abu Elephant safari program is no longer available in its original intent. Abu camp has a classic tents with activities centered around antelope species and birding. Previously, Elephant walking safaris with experienced guides offered a tranquil way to see the wilderness and animals. A few species of game seen include Lechwe, Impala, Zebra, Tsessebe, Buffalo, Giraffe and Hyena. With individuals rescued from culling operations or the effects of poaching, Abu's conservation program invests great care in the rehabilitation of the herd through the support of Botswana Department of Wildlife and Parks.

Singita's acquisition of Abu Concession:
Singita Botswana launches in the Okavango Delta in 2026 with the brand new Singita Elela. In addition to regular day and night game drives and guided canoeing on the delta, fishing and birding safaris are offered. Activities at the concession were centered around antelope species and birding.
